Casio Exilim EX-G1 Review

Casio EX-G1

My husband and I decided to purchase this camera last November before our anniversary trip to Punta Cana. We looked into purchasing a couple of disposable waterproof cameras for the trip but then reazlied how costly they have gotten (approx $10) We figured that this camera was worth the investment!

This camera is named to tie in with Casio’s G-Shock brand of watches, the Exilim EX-G1 is the world’s thinnest, rugged compact camera. The camera is  shock resistant up to 2.13 meters and freeze proof to a temperature of -10°.

It’s also waterproof to 3m for up to one hour.

The camera shoots 12mp photos and also takes high quality videos with good sound. It has a 2.5in LCD screen and is less than 20mm thick.

The good

The EX-G1 is designed to be rugged but yet small. The camera easily fits into my back pocket or easily stores in a small pocket of my purse. I have the I Phone 4 and the camera is a little wider and slightly thicker but very comparable in size.

The camera has speaker and microphone filters to prevent liquid from getting in and it has two compartments (battery and memory card slot) that are sealed tight! When I first looked at this camera I thought that there was no way that it truly was waterproof, freeze proof and shockproof because of its attractive, non-bulky appearance. I have put this camera up to the test. I took it sledding this winter and it survived the snow and ice and took great photos. It has also survived camping trips, float trips, ocean/beach trips and still looks brand new!

The bad

I dislike that I had to buy all new memory cards for this camera because it only takes the micro SD (I only had the original SD cards). Also, the wrist strap on the camera does not tighten. I like to be able to tighten this around my wrist whenever I am at risk of dropping the camera and I am not able to. While using this camera in the snow/sledding, I found that it was hard to push the buttons and operate the camera with my thick gloves on because of the small buttons and thin design. I could see that it could be harder to operate for someone with larger hands.

The bottom line

This is a great camera for everyday use as well as your outdoor adventures.
