Synopsis: Rio is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the Ice Age films. Set in the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro and the lush rain-forest of Brazil, the comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there’s another — and that she’s a she — he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it’s far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life’s many wonders. Rio brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance.

 Rio begins with Blu a rare macaw as a wee baby bird, who falls out of a tree where he lands softly and is soon scooped up by a poacher. While on a truck with other exotic birds now in the U.S. Blu falls out of the truck and is found by a little girl. This little girl (Anne Hathaway) domesticates and raises Blu and as she grows into a woman, Blu blossoms into a handsome grown macaw. The two are inseparable and soon are on their way to Rio when a friend of (Anne Hathaway) convinces her to breed Blu with Jewel. Jewel is the female version of Blu who is the last of her kind, soon to be extinct. Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) is quite the character and had me laughing the whole time. Once in Rio Blu doesn't think it is such a good idea to mate, after he meets and speaks to Jewel in a bird lab. Jewel is an angry macaw that has has been trying to escape from this lab and is in no mood for chatting. During the night Jewel and Blu are stolen from the lab, but not without a fight from Jewel and soon their adventure begins. While in Rio, Blu befriends some wise-cracking, smooth talking exotic city birds (including Gorge Lopez),who helps him along the way. But because Blu has never learned how to fly, he is constantly walking while others are flying, which at times gets him and Jewel into some very serious and dangerous situations. The soundtrack throughout Rio is AMAZING and the colors through out the movie are just gorgeous! I highly recommend this movie for the whole family! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
